BRIMFIELD: Alice Virginia (Hamer) Clarke-Lloyd, 101, completed Life’s Journey on January 12, 2013. She was the daughter of Jefferson Davis Hamer and Alice (Whitfield) Hamer, born in Fort Worth Texas and graduated from Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was predeceased by her first husband Raymond Clarke in 1976 and her second husband, Frederick Lloyd, in 2002. She was also predeceased by her brothers Tracy, Whitfield, Curtis and Jefferson.
Alice leaves her two sons: Hamer of Southbridge, MA and his wife Dawn; Edward of Brimfield, MA and his wife Vivian. She also leaves three grandsons: Andrew of Concord MA and his wife Jennifer; Seth of Somerville MA and his partner Peter; and Jefferson of London UK and his wife Amalia. She also leaves her two great grandchildren: Benjamin and Julia Clarke of Concord MA.
Moving from the south, she was Clerk to the Brimfield Rationing Board and retired as the Postmaster of Brimfield in 1977. During the summers, she would be at Davenport Park on Little Alum Lake which the family owned and operated. She was a member of the Brimfield Congregational Church and very active in the LBS.
Alice was an avid traveler, flower gardener and an accomplished seamstress; teaching sewing to residents of the former East Brimfield and latest to her great granddaughter. She was also a knitter, an accomplished cross-stitcher and quilter, finishing her last garden pattern quilt in 2010, started in 1938.
A Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 19, in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St. Southbridge. There are no calling hours.
