Albert Vecchia

SOUTHBRIDGE: Albert “Apple” Vecchia Jr., 72, of Sayles St. died Tuesday, June 6 at Harrington Hospital after an illness.
He leaves his daughter Brenda Fredericks of Andover, a grandson Maxim Fredericks, an aunt Mary Vecchia Trifone of Southbridge, a sister in law Polly Vecchia of Southbridge, nieces Kimberly and Dina Bergman both of Sturbridge, Christa Corriveau of Dudley, Tracy Vecchia of Southbridge, cousin Kim Gamache and many other cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews, many friends and his beloved dog Oliver.
“Apple” was a graduate of Southbridge High School and went on to earn his Bachelors degree in Accounting from Bentley College. He was a Certified Public Accountant and worked at the William F. Lynch Co. in Worcester for many years before retiring in 2016.
Albert loved politics, both state and local. He served on the Southbridge Town Council for 9 years. Apple fought for what he believed in and while controversial at times, he was the Champion of “No new taxes” for the citizens of the community he loved and called home all his life.
He enjoyed horse racing, watching and attending sporting events, the Celtics and was a die-hard Yankees fan. During the baseball season Apple proudly wore his Yankees baseball cap. Another favorite passion was Charlie Daniels and the yearly Band Concerts at Indian Ranch. He could be seen at all the concerts, accompanied by many friends that he would invite to join him. On warm, sunny days he would disappear to Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island He loved to talk about his times there with family and friends.
His funeral will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, June 12, in St. Mary’s Church of the St. John Paul Parishes, Hamilton St. Southbridge. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
