Albert Durrin
October 20, 1923 — April 17, 2007
FITCHBURG: Albert F. Durrin, 83, of 247 High Rock Road, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 17th after a short illness. He was born in Putnam, CT, October 20, 1923, the son of Albert W. and May (Frost) Durrin. He attended the Woodstock Academy in Woodstock, CT, and Boston University School of journalism, Class of 1953. He served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He was a former Deacon at Rollstone Congregational Church.
He moved to Fitchburg in 1953 where he worked at the Fitchburg Sentinel as a journalist, he worked for Barkley and Dexter Laboratories Inc. as a salesman, and then he worked for the City of Fitchburg Health Department as a sanitary code inspector from which he retired in 1988.
He loved to garden and read. He was also a golfer, hunter, and a fisherman. He was a member of the Fitchburg Sportsmanâ??s Club and the Eastwood Club.
He leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Doris A. (Palmer) Durrin of Fitchburg; a daughter, Brenda S. Durrin Maloney of Lenox, MA; two sons, Brian D. Durrin and his wife, Lynda of Fitchburg, Brad D. Durrin and his wife, Heidi of Fitchburg; four grandsons, Brian D. Durrin Jr. of Colton, CA, T. James Maloney of Lenox, MA, Timothy B. Durrin of Canaan, CT, and Jeremy R. Durrin of Fitchburg; a sister, Muriel and her husband, Bryon Eddy of Woodstock, CT, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Norine Anderson of Hazardville, CT.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM Monday, April 23, at Rollstone Congregational Church, 199 Main St. Fitchburg. A graveside for the family will be held at 10:00AM Monday, April 23, North Cemetery, Maple Street in Sturbridge. There are no calling hours.
