Agnes Wilkin

December 10, 1908 — October 28, 2005

Agnes S. Wilkin, 96, formerly of Newton Place, Sturbridge, died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 in Damariscotta, Maine. She was the widow of Colonel John L. Wilkin, U.S.Army, who died in 1973. Mrs. Wilkin was born in White Plains, New York, the daughter of Loton H. and Rebecca (Graham) Slawson. She is survived by her niece, Muriel B. Sheppe of Owl's Head, Maine and six grandnephews and many friends. She was a graduate of the Brearley School in Manhattan and Barnard College. She taught at the Brearley School for fifteen years after graduation from Barnard College. She and her husband traveled extensively while living in Turkey and Japan. Before moving to Maine in 2001, she lived for many years in Sturbridge where she had a particular interest in local history. She was a member of the Sturbridge, Southbridge and Dudley Historical Societies. She was a long time member of the Old Sturbridge Village and was president of the Community History Programs. For many years she enjoyed a membership in the Southbridge Garden Club and several years ago wrote a history of that organization. There will be a brief memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2005 in the Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy Street, Southbridge. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Moravian Cemetery on Staten Island, New York.
